FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Q: How can I paint? (I cannot draw. I do not have any artistic ability)

A: The classes are structured for beginners and intermediate-level students. The classes are taught in a very simple, follow-the-teacher, step-by-step method, so anyone over 9 years is welcome! You will learn how to properly load your brushes with paint and apply this paint to your canvas, making clouds, trees, mountains, water, etc… There will be plenty of individual attention and instruction, which is a sure-way to learn and take home a beautifully finished painting, all in just one session.

Q: What are the medium, types, techniques used?

A: We will be using professional grade oil paints and specially designed paintbrushes. The types of painting will mostly be landscapes, seascapes and some florals. We will be painting using the Wet-on-wet Oil Painting Technique. This technique is basically layering an application of wet paint on top of wet paint. This eliminates the traditional “wait time” for each layer to dry, thus, allowing us to complete a painting project in just one session.

Q: How are the class conducted? How many students can be in one class?

A: There will be a "featured painting" per session. (Click HERE to view sample photos of featured paintings). In a session, everyone will paint the featured painting. I will demonstrate how to re-create each layer from start to finish.

A private painting session is limited to up to 3 students only. For a group of 4 or more students, click HERE to find out how you can host your own Painting Party.

Q: How long are the classes? When and where are the sessions held?

A: A class is normally 5 hours long. Private Painting Sessions are held in Chicago's uptown/lakefront neighborhood (5030 N. Marine Drive). Seats are limited and available on appointment basis only.

Classes may also be arranged to accommodate off-site requests. I will travel to your home, church, school, and/or community centers for Painting Parties of a minimum of 4 students.

Q: What is the cost of taking a class? What are the acceptable forms of payment?

A: $65.00 per student. This fee includes the cost of materials and instruction. You may pay via Paypal, Money Order or Cash only. Payment is required at the beginning of the class.

For Painting Parties: Full payment is required 14 days before the event. Notification of any cancellations must be made a week before the Painting Party to get a full refund. Otherwise, only 50% refund will be given for each absent (no-show) student.

Q: What supplies are required for a class?

A: All supplies needed to finish a painting are provided. All paints, paintbrushes, and easels are the property of the instructor and provided for instructional purposes only.

For Painting Parties: The party host/hostess is responsible for providing sufficient space to accommodate the invited guests. Tables and chairs will also be needed.
